The State of North Carolina requires students under 18 to complete driver's education before obtaining their learner's permit. North Carolina law requires all students to be 14 ½ years old by the first date of driver education class. All classroom sessions will be virtual, and in-person will be available upon request and availability.

Level II Road Test for Teens (Teen - Ages 16-17)
The Smoots Driving Academy is now NC DMV-certified to administer the Level II Road Test for eligible teen drivers. This service allows qualified students to complete their required road test without visiting a DMV office, saving time and avoiding long wait periods.
To be eligible, students must:

Be 16-17 years old

Hold a Limited Learner Permit for at least 9 months

Have completed the required 60 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night

Meet all North Carolina DMV Level II requirements
